Charles County Family Day Care Association, Inc. In The Community
From The Desk of the President:
Spring has finally sprung and what a perfect time to learn something new and to reinforce what has already been taught! The children are so excited to get outside and play again. Use this opportunity to discuss the changing of the seasons. Talk to them about the monstrous snow we had this winter and how it has helped to prepare the ground for the spring flowers and grass.
As you are out walking, ask them open ended questions such as How do you think the snow helped the earth get ready for spring, or how many flowers do you see? What about the trees, what happened to their coats during the winter and whats happening now? What happens in the spring? Why do you think the seasons change, and what type of clothing can they wear in the spring? There are so many ways that you can seize this opportunity! Youll be surprised with the answers you get.
This is your chance to clean out the cobwebs from everyone. By taking advantage of this season change, you can prepare a lesson plan for math, science, art, music and so much more. This is also a great time to start thinking about the summer.
What are your plans for the children? Are you going on field trips? If so, start preparing your permission slips now. Yes, spring is a wonderful time of the year. Its when flowers and grass start to grow, the caterpillars began to hibernate and then they turn into beautiful butterflies.
Teachable moments are not only for the children, we providers can continue to learn new and exciting things also. Seize every moment. We are preparing for our Empowering Todays Children to Build Tomorrows Future Child Care Conference in July of this year and we are so excited. There will be lots of new and exciting materials that will help you in your daily
professional lives so dont miss it!
